Mindful Monday

Misery

I’m aware and grateful. The sun rises and shines on its own, without me having to do anything. So, too, with the birds. They sing without help from me. I’m blessed and everything’s unfolding as it should. Then I stub my toe and the entire world is reduced to the pain in my poor little toe.

If peace comes from experiencing the whole, then misery comes from disconnecting from that and a loss of perspective.

In giving myself over to littleness, to narrowing my focus I become miserable. Misery is allowing a moment of suffering to become everything. After all, there is a body that isn’t stubbed, a world that isn’t stubbed and a spirit that isn’t stubbed. Look to them.
