So Much Talent

There’s so much talent out there!
I’m in awe.

We are surrounded by talent!
Good writers, poets, teachers, photographers, leaders, actors, engineers, inventors, and
parents.

And you can’t tell from looking.

The person going too slowly in the car in front of you
The person checking you out in CVS
The guy cutting your lawn, trimming your trees or cleaning your pool
Your next door neighbor
Any and all may have, probably do have, talent they’re expressing or latent in them.

And you can’t tell from looking.

Like old people.
The old lady fumbling with her purse in the grocery store line, holding you and everyone else up
might have flown bombers across the Atlantic during WWII.
Or she might have been a brain surgeon
Or a once famous performer or prostitute

You can’t tell from looking.

Or her son might be Stephen King
Or her daughter Meryl Streep

You can’t tell from looking.

Same for the old guy beside her
>Perhaps he’d been a Green Beret
Or a race car mechanic at Indy
Or maybe they were just kind and compassionate most of the time
trucking on, doing the best they could

And until you see them in your poetry group and hear them read
Or in a church talent show
Or see something about them in the paper
You don’t know how talented they are

There’s so much talent out there!
I’m in awe.

We are surrounded by  talent!

And you can’t tell from looking.
